Understanding Pip Value
A pip (Percentage in Point) is the smallest standard price movement in forex. For most currency pairs, a pip is 0.0001 (the fourth decimal). For JPY pairs, it is 0.01 (the second decimal).
The pip value depends on the lot size and the exchange rate. For USD-denominated pairs (like EUR/USD), a standard lot (100,000 units) has a pip value of approximately $10. For cross pairs, the pip value needs to be converted using the current exchange rate.
Knowing your pip value is essential for calculating position size, setting stop losses in dollar terms, and managing overall portfolio risk.
